Mangatha Jump over the Hurdles

Theater owners association is planning to stall the release of Mangatha. Due to the loss they beared by "vaa..Quarter cutting" and "azhagar Sami kuthirai" from Dhayanidhi Alagiri's Cloud Nine. But now the scene has changed upside down. Mangatha is going to be released by Studio Green of Gnavelraja. Who produces surya, and karthi's movie. Now the theatre owners are having a second thought. If we are not going to release mangatha now they will lose the upcoming karthi and surya film in their theatre. By this move Dayanidhi Alagiri's Mangatha will Jump over the hurdle and get released by Sep.

Tamil Cinema Report For July 2011

Of late July month has become a lucky month for Tamil cinema.  This year in July,
  • Arumbu Meesai Kurumbu paarvai,
  • Music Director S.S.Kumaran’s Theneer Vidhuthi,
  • Dhanush’s Vengai,
  • Vikram’s Deiva Thirumagal,
  • Ragavendra Lawrence’s Kanjana,
  • M.Kalangiyam’s Karungali,
  • Gowtham’s Asst, Anjana’s Veppam
were noteoworthy releases. Apart from these films, more than a dozen films got released too. But they could not sustain even for a week in screens.

Arumbu Meesai Kurumbu PaarvaiA Small budget film from Bharathiraja’s Asst Vetriveeran. Despite the face the film was well received amidst critics, it failed to impress the audience. Due to lack of publicity the film did not capture the attention of the audience. The only gain which the producer got over this film is good recognition for his acting. Yes, the Producer Mohanbalu had acted in a pivotal role in this film.

Theneer  VidhuthiFirst directorial venture of Music Director S.S. Kumaran. Sadly, film failed in all departments.  Strangely in music too. The director might have thought that ‘Kalavaani’ type of comedy will work out for him as well. But, unfortunately, it doesn’t click. Has become a disastrous failure.

VengaiThe most expected film, as it is from Dhanush and Hari’s team.  Sun TV bought the distribution rights first and returned back to the producer because of some problems.  Hari’s Magic doesn’t work out this time for Dhanush. Run of the mill story, and screenplay plays the spoilsport for the viewers.  This film falls into an average movie category

Deiva ThirumagalOne of the most expected films from Vikram. UTV procured the distribution rights but couldn’t able to sell the film as the distributors thought it might be a serious award movie. UTV boldly took the challenge and released on their own.  With good publicity and word of mouth reports, audience throng over the theatres.  Even though there was a strong arguments getting over regarding the plagiarism of I am Sam, people get hooked to Sara.

Kanchana –Muni -2Before the release itself this film turned out to be a profitable project for Lawrence. He sold both the Tamil and Telugu rights to a handsome deal. Rama Narayanan purchased the Tamil rights for around 4 crores and sold all the areas to distributors. In NSC area itself the film collected 3crores till now. Expect to do some where near 5 crore in their area and 30 crores totally. Kovai sarala and Devadharshini’s comedy worked magically in this horror flick draws the women audience towards the theatres. Distributors says Kanchana has even crossed the Arundhadhi’s collection. A great feat indeed.

Karungali
Dir. Mu.Kalanjiam donned the grease paint and also directed this movie. Been in production for long time. Anjali is the only known face in this movie. The subject related with adultery, drugs, problem with issueless couples. Because of the cheap titillating scenes the film falls down to C grade sex film. Fails to impress the audience.

Veppam
Gowtham menon’s Asst  Anjana’s directorial debut. Come with new premises for a women director. Drugs, slum, betraying etc..,etc...  Problem with the screenplay plays the villain for this film. Joshua Sridhar’s soothing songs, sadly,  fail to impress visually.

Apart from these films minimum of 3 to 5 Tamil films, English, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Tanglish films have been releasing every week.  3 to 5 films every week is a disastrous for small budget movies.  By the time, the public gets the feedback about the movie by word of mouth, the film is not in theatre because of poor collection. These films must be given some breathing time to stay in the market. Unless until these releases are not controlled, small budget movies, future will remain bleak, as it stands now.

Food And Life

Food & Life

My dear fellow foodies,

when I painstakingly search for a good food joint for yummy mouth watering flavoured food , often I have seen people preaching 'We should eat to live not live for eating'. Perhaps they want to establish themselves as not foodies. But trust me, once we are inside the food joint, they are the first ones to take the plunge by jumping on to the bandwagon, myself could not help but smile at their love to good food.
